Aeromedical Evacuation (A/E) Support for Desert Storm.

2. Concept: During the period 14 period 14 January to 25 March 1991, the
Theater Aeromedical Evacuation Control Center (TAECC) was activated to
support Operation Desert Storm. The TAECC was activated at the
Operation Support Center (OSC) at RAMSTEIN Air Force Base, Germany as
the Centralized Command, Control and Communication function for
Aeromedical Evacuation activities in Europe. This included the
movement of patients from the Desert Storm Area of Responsibility (AOR)
to Europe (EUCOM), from EUCOM to CONUS and within the European Theater.
The EUCOM Theater was divided into three regions. These were the
Northern Region, located at Upper Heyford, England: the Southern
Region, located at Torrejon Air Base, Madrid Spain: and the Central
Region located at Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany. Each Region had a
Regional Aeromedical Evacuation Center and an appropriate
number of Aeromedical Evacuation System Elements and other support
elements for that region. The TAECC was staffed by a composite of
Active Duty, Reserve and Air National Guard personnel from Strategic
and Tactical Aeromedical Evacuation Units and total 18 personnel.
The large number of expected casualties necessitated the utilization of
237 planned Aeromedical Evacuation Crews for the transportation of
wounded from EUCOM to CONUS and a planned utilization of 128
Aeromedical Evacuation Crews for the movement of wounded from the AOR
to EUCOM. The actual number of Aeromedical Evacuation utilized
were 195 Crews for the movement of wounded from EUCOM to CONUS and 109
Crews from the AOR to EUCOM. The Crews were utilized at the following
bases:
		INTER-THEATER INTRA-THEATER
