                                           DESERT SHIELD/STORM

       CATEGORY: Aeromedical Evacuation

       ISSUE/ITEM:

SUBJECT: Theater Aeromedical Evacuation - FFQC1 Equipment

BACKGROUND: FFQC1 Flight Surgeon teams were first postured in the 1988 OPlans.
Since that time, guidance regarding specialized equipment authorizations for
those personnel has not been provided.

DISCUSSION: Without proper authorization, we cannot secure flight suits, air
crew ensembles, or any other items to support these personnel. With Desert Storm
deployments, ATC flight surgeons faced a significant problem in securing these
resources once in theater. Later, deploying teams were advised that such items
would not be available to them at all once in the AOR.

       ACTION RECOMMENDED:

                                  (1) Determine appropriate requirements for specialized uniforms,
supplies and equipment for FFQC1 UTCs.

                                  (2) Develop appropriate TAs and publish, if indicated.

                                  (3) Secure required items for all FFQC1 taskings.

       SUGGESTED OPRs/OCRs: HQ MAC/SGX
                                                   HQ USAF/SGHR
                                                   MAJCOM/SGX
       SUBMITTER: Terry W. Clarke/Capt/HQ ATC/SGAX
                          [(b)(2)]
