(MEMORANDUM FOR RECORD
!SUBJEC'f: Team 2 Daily RcDort
1. Todav's hiehliahts are recon of 28th CSII's tedivat, lielidad and
recoil of Yesterdays burn site.
2. CPT Todd (IINS) and ISG Whitmore (lif4S) went to KFRC hospital
complex to identify if the medivac hi.-Iii)ad (VK 020110) 3L the 28tli
CSli was built (this Pro'iect was not ar.,proved by ITS nr COL Kalif;
ARCENT Eneinepi,s and 28th CSII received permission from the
civilian administal-or of the hospital. not tiirour)i military
channels). The medivac lielidad is built (roui:hlv 30 meters by 30
meters). alone witit an access road to the 28tit area and the main
road to the KFIIC hospital (an open V-shaped road about 100 meters
per lee). This is clear uo possible confusion with the orovosed
44 helicopter lielinad requested by 44tli Medical Brieade (see
vesterday's Daily Report).
3. CPT Todd and ISG Whitmore recontied the site (VI( 050060) uliere
the burninl, (thick billowine black clouds of smoke) took Place
yesterday. The site is a fo'rmei, Quarry now used as a earbage dumo
(garbage in middle east countries is normally dumped out in tlil-
desert or in a depression, lilze a quarry. and burned).
Comsiderable Diles of 2arbaee were present. more I)avitie been the
for a period of time (cans heavily rusted). The recent burned
pile (one still smoking and one still burning) contained mostly
cans (food type. very few soda cans) and bottles (like small soda
bottle:;). Also. a large pile of burned fiberglass (from air
conditioning duct insulation) with small pieces partially burnt.
was present (this could have caused the black clouds of smoke).
Further back in to the earba2e dump was a Pile of gai-baee not yet
burnt (this appeared to be contractor garbage due to booklets on
dders. emvtv oil cans with SAE 40; as opposed to SAE 15W40 in
US; and lack of candy wrappers, empty water bottles. or U.S. type
i)aper earbaee,,tvde written oaper. newsoapers. or maeazines).
Also, U.S. trucks use an unoffical (like at Draeon iase)
enLrance/exit (less than 100 meters from the burn site) from the
expressway enroute to the Quarry ASP (the burn site is riebt
across the expressway from the burn site). If the presence of
U.S. vehicles nearby is the reason for saying the U.S. burned
e,irbaee there. this is probably incorrect. Actual observation
would have been required (difficult from the road due to the
quarry beine somewhat lower in elevation than the road. and the
billowing oi the tmoke (CPT Todd view the buriiinp, yesterday at
rouL,Iilv 0830 local; blueisli white smoke,. and at 1100 local,.
biliowine black smoke).
