                          SUBJECT.: Operations in Desert Heat



                          S. Experience is the best teacher: it is, therefore, Incumbent on
                          all unit Standardization Instructor Pilots (SIP), Instructor
                          Pilots. (IP) and Unit Trainers (UT) to continue to discuss the
                          effect of high temperatures and density altitudes on the handling
                          qualities and aerodynamic characteristics of-their assigned
                          aircraft. The key to survival in a desert environment 15
                          extraction from that environment in a timely manner. This csin only
                          be accomplished if aircrew5 flight follow at all times. Therefore,
                          all aircrews will attempt to flight follow with ATC facilities
                          within the Division area or with AWACS at all times. The final
                          authority to fly or abort a mission rast5 with the pllot-in-compand
                          and his decision will not be overridden.


                          S. I want commanders to reinforce preventive medicine measures
                          against heat injuries to leaders at all levels. I also expect
                          reinforcement of the aviation procedures, policies, and aviation
                          operation in the desert heat environment. Prdtaction of the forc
                          against heat and environmental conditions is a leadership
                          responsibility.
