of 4 to 5 airbursts walked from the front of the task force to the rear.

Orange and yellow tracers are also seen at this time, being fired by the

         enemy.

ILT Harper sees the C Company combat trains speeding through the.'

forward mortar position, stopping 200m forward of the Field Artillery.

8,Attery. ILT Harper decides to back up even with the 2nd Section

initially, but when more indirect starts to fall, he pulls the 2nd Section

         back another 500m.

the lst Section remains in position awaiting +ire missions. The mo
FDCs try to call the company FISTS but get no response. At 1800,' C Compgny
calls -For mortars to mark +or CAS. The lst Section fires an illumination
marking round, then 3 white phosphorous rounds repeated twice to mark the

area. Unfortunately the CAS is diverted to TF 4-181N.

At around 1900, the Mortar Platoon Sergeant, SFC Montgomery, moves

back to the combat trains to bring forward an ammunition truck to
replenish the rounds fired during the day. Indirect has ceased and there

is no contact with enemy forces.
After receiving the FRAGO for the night attack, both sections break
down and +all in behind C Company. Prior to the first bound a+ tne attack
the mortars set up long enough to fire 2 illumination rounds to mark the
center of sector for the attack. The rounds fall true but CPT Szaoo,
orienting 45 degrees instead of 90 degrees, reports tne rounds falling toc

         far to the soutti.

After th@ first bound and just prior to the second bound, short

friendly artillery rounds fall. SFC Montgomery sees DPICM bomblets explode
50m From the lead gun track. All sections report no casualties.
