       A. UNIT STRENGTH
       ;. The 3d Brigade deployed from Friedberg Germany as a brigade combat team
       over the period 26 December 1990 to 5 January 1991. An advance party of
       about 100 soldiers preceeded the deployment on 10 December 1991.
       2. Initial brigade deployed strength in Saudi Arabia was 3158 soldiers.
       The brigade consisted of one infantry battalion (5-18), two tank
       battalions ( 2-67 and 4-67), a direct support field artillery battalion
       (@.-82), and a forward support battalion (54th FSB). Also deploying with
       the brrigade were the 3d platoon of the 503d MP Company, two SEN teams
       from the 143d Signal Battalion, +our SSR teams from the 533d MI Battalion,
       Air Force ground liason teams, and LNOs from the 3-5 ADA Battalion.
       :3. THe combat team deployed at 98% assigned strength, with the maneuver
       battalions at 100% and the support battalion at 96%. The brigade received
        replacements in SWA both before and after hostilities. Those that
       arrived after were ilready in the replacement pipeline when the war ended.
       Ail replacements were individuals with the majority mechanics and medics.
       Combat MOB replacements were held as crews, squads etc. and were not
       -ceived (or needed). Those replacements that were received were a mixture
         !RR recalls, AIT and officer Advance Courses graduates, and diversions
        O.Ti other assignments.

       combat support units. D Battery 5-3 ADA added 145 soldiers in Chappare:@
       Vulcan, and Stinger platoons. The brigade also received a headquarters
 element and C and D Companies of the 12th Engineer Battalion which were
       redesignated as the 33d Engineer Battalion (Provisional). Their total
       strength was 350. The brigade also received a 4 man Civil Affairs team anif
       a 26 man corps MP platoon from the 92d MP Company.

       Combat team strength remained at this level until the end of host:l@t@es.
