SUBJECT: Coalition forces identification.
In order to prevent fratricide of friendly forces the following
measures must be followed:
a. Air 'Lo Ground Operations. An air to ground recogni-tion,panel
(VS-17) will@ be placed on the top of designated vehicles, orange
side up, during air to ground operations. This procedure will be
foll@,ed until a more sophisticated system is developed.
b. Ground Operations: Gun tubes will always be oriented toward
the enemy. Designated combat vehicles will@ display the orange panel
described above when approaching friendly forces. Adjacent un:L s
with vehicles of different manufacture should conduct combined
training to improve vehicle identification. Exchat-ige of LNO's is
recommended and highly encouraged.
C. Sign/Countersign, For persor@al@ recognition, numbers from
1-10 will be used when meeting individu-=tl@s/Ltni'@s of coalition
forces. Use a show of fingers, flashing a light,or any other method
that indicates a number. Numbers change daily at OOOLZ in
conjunction with the JCEOI. The following numbers will@ be used,
