           4. @Uj- TITLE: CUCVs ARE NOT SUITED FOR DESERT TERRAIN

           5. @   OBSERVATION: CUCVs of all types are not wait suited to a
           desert terrain.

           6. -[Uj- DISCUSSION: CUCVs get stuck very easily In the desert
           terrain, especially the shelter carrying CUCVs that also pull a
           generator set, Most of Signal Battalion's shelter carrying,
           cargo and command and control vehicles are CUCV'S. We have had
           numerous vehicles get stuck as we attempted to move with Brigade
           and Battalion CPs to negotiate high ground. A few vehicles have
           been damaged in recovery operations. The Corps Signal Brigade
           shelter carrying HMMWVs in our area have had very litt a
           mobility problems.
           74@ LESSON LEARNED: CUCV users must choose routes with great
           care. All CUCVs should carry a 60-foot length of 1-inch
           diameter rope to aid in recovery operations.

           8(@    RECOMMENDED ACTION: Replace all CUCVs with HMMWVS.
