TAB A Phase I mobilization To 73d Medical Detachment DS/DS AAR
I. Mobilization.
A. Personnel: Despite being at 117% fill prior to
deployment, the 73d deployed at 83% strength, due to the non-
availability of 2 veterinary food inspectors. Attempts to have
at least I additional food inspector assigned to the unit in
order to deploy at 100% failed, based on mission capability at
83%. The unit's NCOIC position was filled by a Staff Sergeant
attached to the unit from Madigan Army Medical Center. In all,
the 73d deployed with 1 Veterinary Corps officer, 1 Animal Care
Specialist, and 3 Veterinary Food Inspectors.
B. Operations: The unit had maintained 100% training in all
essential common tasks, however, these were reviewed, emphasizing
NBC and emergency medical training. Physical training was
increased, and included road marches in MOPP gear to acclimate
personnel to its possible use. Two loadouts were performed prior
to the actual deployment to ensure unit proficiency. Two Poms
ensured that unit members' personnel records, immunizations,
medical records, and dental records were up to date. Personnel
were urged to have wills and pow6rs of attorney drawn up prior to
departure. Vehicles and generators received technical
inspections and the identified required repairs. MOS training in
operational ration inspection was conducted.
C. Logistics: MTOE equipment shortages that had been
previously identified were now given ordering priority. Clothing
and personal supplies were obtained through local purchase.
Desert canoflage uniforms and overgarments were ordered. CTA
authorized equipment was ordered. class 8 supplies not available
through Army logistics channels were ordered by local purchase.
Showdown inspections of CIF issue and initial issue equipment
ity and accountability. The
one month waiting period before deployment allowed time for most
necessary items to arrive prior to departure. The only
exceptions were desert camoflage netting and a refractometer,
neither of which were mission essential.
