SUBJECT: Reply to Questionnaire for all Detachments
1. Which Items (top three) of equipment proved to be the most valuable during
operation Desert shield to the present?
a. The High Utility Mobile Vehicle (HUMV)
b. The Small Emplacement Equipment (SEE)
c. Global Positioning System (GPS)L Loran with UTM conversion capability
2. Which Items (bottom three) proved to be the least valuable/could have
remained in the U.S. during operation Desert Shield to the present?
a. The SEOD Robot (SBOD)
b. The Bomb Suit
c. Extra "L" series MTOE Equipment when under "H" series MTOB

3. What items of equipment that you did not have, were not authorized or were
not available to you would have requested to better accomplished your mission?

4. What difficulties did your unit experience in the following areas and what
recommendations for corrective actions do you suggest ?
a. LIFE SUPPORT:
1. The GP medium tents did not fair well during unit operations in the
desert. Recommend that a replacement tent be proposed to replace the GP medium
tent. No recommendations are provided at this time.
2. The 5 gallon water cans proved to take up much of the valuable
storage space on our vehicles. Also, the added weight of the Water slowed some
of our progress through the desert. Recommended that the units be authorized a
potable water trailer to replace the water cans. The 500 gallon water buffalo
would fill this requirement.
b. MISSION SUPPORT: BOD units should be under the operation command
(OPCON) to the elements that they are supporting. This would alleviate most of
the logistical problems that this unit experienced during the war. Some of
