P14KS/1. - (U) A tk"ter-wiclis anthrax vaccirtation prograz is to be
initiated within @e following guidelines.
2. Personnel to be vaccinated .,
(A Only personnel assignecd to fixed units within this
@e" designated by icENTCON are to be vaccinated at the present
time. No @nsiont or shipboard personnel are to be vAiccinated.
Exceptions are pathologists and medical laboratory personnel.
B. (01 sufficient qu@tities of anthrax vaccine will be
available by May 1991 to vaccinate all personnel in the AOR.
3. @U) Anthrax vaccine information
A. 06 The anthrax vaccine is administered as a @.5cc
subcutaneous injection as outlined in the package insert and the
educational materials provided with each vaccine shipment. Two
doses are to-be given approximately 14 days apart.
B. LM Personnel can expect some burning at the injection
site for 'li@ to two minutes after injection. Less than six percent
of personnel will experience milci local discomfort at the injection
site lasting two to three days and less than one per cant dill have
a more ",vere local reaction lasting one to two days.
4. (A Anthrax vaccination administrative requirements
A. (A The vaccine is to be ,administered in an enclosed area.
No media is to be present. lio photographs are permitted. The
concept is to keep this program cis low key as possible.
D. On Soldiers shc)uld have available and read the following
statement immediately prior to receiving the anthrax vaccine:
You care receiving the first of two shots to protect against
anthrax, @ potential biological warfare agent. @o@ will receive
e but may
cause an initial burning sensation lasting I to 2 minutes and
minimal local irritation at the injection site lasting 2 to 3 days.
These shots supplement the primary protection provided by the
protective mask and treatment with antibiotics currently available
in theatre.
The tact that you are receiving these shots is classified SECITET
and you are not to discuss these shots with anyone.
C. The above statement is not to be distributed.
D. Rosters of - personnel receiving vaccine will be
maintained and will include name, SS@, rank, and unit."
E. (A Vaccinations may be recorded on PHS-731 (yellow shot
record) 6r on SP-601 (Imia@izatioh Record) . The first anthrax
