OBJECTIVE: a. Given a list of ways skin can be protected, select the ways
topical skin protectant protects against chemical warfare, in

                          b. Given a drawing of the human body, label the seven body areas
(in sequence of priority application) that topical skin
protectant will be applied in accordance with the material

                         d. Given a list of effects of topical skin protectant, select
the effects of topical skin protectant on other NBC materials

                                                LECTURE

INTRODUCTION: Topical skin protectant (TSP) is a physical barrier which
reduces exposure of protected skin to blister agent. Its effectiveness is
strictly dependent on the thickness o the film, the length of time elapsed
between application and agent exposure, and whether topical skin protectant is
present- on the body area exposed to the vesicant (blister) agent. Your first
priority for application should be the body areas adjacent to closure@ of the
           battle -dress overgarment (BOO), that is, the wrists, neck, and lower legs;
ditionally you may be directed to apply it to the groin area, creases and
crack of the buttocks, around the belt area and arm pits. TSP should be used
as an adjunct to TIOPP (NOT a substitute). All service members at risk in a
potentially contaminated chemical environment should use TSP..
TSP can cause false positive responses for G-agent (nerve agent) on the M8-Al
Alarm, CMI, and ti8 paper. It will not cause a false positive response for
mustard agent. It is important to -fomow instructions carefully for
application and reapplication of TSP to reduce false alarms as mu.ch as
possible. False alarms can adversely affect the mission.

           1. IDENTIFY PURPOSES OF TSP.
               A. It protects skin from chemical warfare vesicant (blister) agents by

                   1. delaying penetration of mustard agent,
                   2. enhancing effectiveness of field skin decontamination systems
