The night vision goggles worked well w@e performing guard duty in
@t City with 5th MG. 7'his gave us an added sense of security.

The 'a helped navigate into the . Vehicle nkounted LORAN's
mWd have been better than the @-held. They do not need an external source of
light mW will read a position faster without having to hold a position for a short
         period of tirm.

            a. Rifle dianmtion: How effective was the Barret rifle?

, because we didn't have it.

Is rifle disruption an effective mmw of clearing s tions?

No, unless it's used only for destruction of a @tim that does not allow
a safe approach. All our s ticn clearances were done with det cord and
         explosives or individual @ts.

Were soldiers effectively trained for rifle disruptim?

We had at least 50% train with Air Force EDD on a few of the range
cl near Half Moon Bay, Saiidi Arabia prior to the war. It took longer to
obtain a clear position and detonate the nimiticn than to approach and detonate the
item. Unfortunately this was all acccirpli@ with an M16A2 or a 7.62rcm sniper
rifle. Using the Barret still would not have changed our opinion.

             h. Mission support: Where was Yo= ymit located and how did You interface
         with tkw units You suivorted?

originally, the unit was assigned to provide s@rt to the 593d XW and
several surr Base Clusters in the Dhahran, Saud3. Arabia. The unit was
reassigned on 14 P y 1991 to support Log Base Alpba and MSR Dodge in Northern
Saudi Arabia. On 23 February we were alerted and aa 24 February 1991 we departed to
support Sth Special Forces Group and the Arab Coalition Forces in the assault into
t and onto and into Kuwait City. We remained with them until 6 March 1991. We
received orders on 7 March 1991 to rest and refit and return to Kuwait City an 11
March 1991 and participate in Task Force Freedan. on 24 March 1991 we received
orders to support 3d Armored Division in Safwan, Iraq in clearing the town of eneaw
and US mmtiom and respond to EOD incidents in the surrounding area. That russion
continued until 31 March 1991. Cn I April 1991, we were seat back to an, Saudi
for redeployment to the United States. We redeployed 15 April 1991, exactly 5
         umths, 20 days after arrival.

We always tried to first interface with the operations Section of the uajor
unit we supported and worked our way from there. Next, all section 1 would
nkeet their corresponding sections fran where we received support. The Conuander and
the Deta t NM would meet their comterparts in as many of the s@rted units
as possible @ continue from there. Everything depended an a heavy liaison program
         to be totally successful.

Discuss the ROD structure @ how it Per to Your umt,

We were assigned to the 542d BODCR. Information was pawed to im frm them in
timly @r and any prok)leffe were solved quickly. As a headquarters, they did an
         outstanding job.
