        SUBJECT: Meritorious Unit Commendation


        1. Request consideration for award of the Meri@oriolis Unit
        Commendation to the 595th Medical Company (Clearing) for its
        unprecedented exceptionally meritorious service during Operation
        Desert Shield and Desert Storm from 6 August 1990 through 6 April'
        i(91.


        2. The unit was alerted for deployment to    Saudi  Arabia an 6 August
        1990, and deployed on 6 October with@all personnel and equipment.i.
        Between 6 August and 6 October, the unit5s service, which cons3'sted
        tif all-out preparations for deployment, was directly related to the
        combat effort.


        3. In accordance with Army Regulation 672-5-1, the following
        information is provided in support of this request for award of the.
        Meri@@or,ious Unit Commendation:


              a. List of missions performed during the period:

                    (1) Successfully deployed the entire unit's OrDa    .nic!
        eqlji-Tent in support of Operation Desert Shield from Fort Devens to
        Dot-'. 28 Hours after notification.


                    (2) The unit processed, received and issued over 700
        requisitions valued at approximately $235,000 during a 30 day period
        pricy, to deployment.

                    (3) Planned, coordinated, and trained for each phase of
        the defensive operation plan, ensuring the XVIII Aii-borne Corps
        Artillery, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), and 3rd Armored
        Cavalry Regiment would be provided -timely -and effective medical Care.

                    (4) During Operation Desert Shield, provided Level i and
          health care to the XVIII Airborne Corps Artiller%l 101st Airborne
        Di-vision (Air Assault) Corps Support broup, and the 176th Maintenance
        Battalion. The unit treated over 2400 soldiers.
