b(U)@M At Tallil airbase we 'can expect limited contamination from
bombing in the vicinity of the probable chemical storage bun[rers. The
size of the contaminated area should be approximately 500 meters sqLtarL-,
with a downwind hazard area of approximately three to -Five Kilometers for
winds above eight knots and temperatures above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The
wind direction is generally from the Northwest. This area could be a
potential hazard for several weeks after bombing, with temperatures
between 60 and 85 degrees fahrenheit.
3. (U) Notes:
a. Area of contamination (source area) represents the s4lze of the
storage bunker plus the areatcont@aminaticti as a resul@t o4 the e,,plo-@ion
heaving agent into the immediate area.
b. The downwind hazard distance equates to negligib!2 i-4s'-.-. @c,-
C. The duration of hazard (several weeks) is an estima@le of the t',a@p
required for weathering to degrade the effects of large quantities of HD
(agent heaved outside immediate confines of bunker) to a negligible r4.slI.
This time could be reduced significantly depending on amount of agen'@,
temperature and weather. Commanders must use Long Range Surveillance
elements and organic reconnaissance to monitor the activi'-i.es of enemy
soldiers and the local populace to assess the hazard prior to entL-r4@ng @L,@L
area.
