(5) The first EPWs were captured by 1-4 CAV on 1
February. The Saudi Border Police and US Special Forces
elements were withdrawn from the border area. Iraqi activity
increased in the border area. 1-4 CAV began systematic
destruction of border outposts and enemy equipment in the
security zone. On 3 February Combat Command Carter deployed
to assume security role in 1-4 CAV sector. On 4 February the
1 ID(M) and 1 (UK) AD conducted a passage of lines seminar to
review, refine@ coordinate and solidify procedures and
graphics for the passage of I (UK) AD during the execution of
Phase IV of OPORD SCORPION DANGER. Enemy RPV activity began
during the night of 9 February.
b. Security Operations.
(1) The Division was ordered to move west into
attack sector on 13 February. TF Iron assumed security role
from CC Carter late on 13 February. Remainder of the
Division moved from TAA ROOSEVELT to the FAA on 14 February.
The move of 115 km was completed in less than 24 hours. At
least one SCUD missile disintegrated in the air over Hafir al
Batin as the Division Command Post passed through. No
military casualties occurred, but there were reports of
civilian casualties and damage to buildings from the falling
debris.
(2) TF Iron out 20 holes in the border berm along
PL VERMONT on 15 February. Encountering only light
resistance, TF Iron penetrated 5 km into Iraq and set along
PL MINNESOTA. Artillery raids began on 16 February and
continued to G-day. The raids usually involved three to four
artillery battalions and two or more MLRS batteries. The
Division was ordered to pull back south of the border berm
during 17 February. During the evening of 17 - 18 February,
while engaging enemy security forces, Apache helicopters from
1-1 AHB mistakenly engaged a Bradley and an M113. Two
soldiers were killed and 6 wounded. Both vehicles were
demolished. TF Iron was replaced by lst and 2d Bde security
elements on 18 February. On 22 February G-day was fixed as
240500C February 1991.
c. Combat Operations, 24 February - 28 February 1991.
(1) 240538C February 1991 the Division attacked
with'lst and 2d Brigades abreast in zone, followed by 3d
Brigade in reserve. By 1300, due to negligible resistance
the Commander requested and received permission to continue
the attack to PL COLORADO. At 1430 a 30 minute, 11,000 round
artillery/MLRS preparation was fired. The attack continued
