On 8 Januarv. the Division GI helped coordinate the first c3i
three POM'S. ILT Hans Vooel. the Adlutant. with the help of SSG
L)aniel Obeso oversa!i the c)j3eration. The POM determined the
oeolovabilitv of each soldier as well as oreoare him for it. It
covered a varietv of items to include: uodatina shot historv.
i-eviewina medical records. uodatine oerso,inel records. recc)rdina
POV starace requirements. reviewina c34 finance records. and
executina leqal actions. The POMs on the Sth. 10th. and 18th o4
januarv processed over 1000 soldiers total. to include soldiers
from other USAREUR cieE)Iovina units.
The 12th was to deolov as a coras L-noineer battalion with
oivisional eouidment. Wheeled vehicles conducted their road march
to tiannheim. the barae site. on 9 Januarv and the tracked vehicles
moved to the Nierstein railhead on the 'Otti throuch the Iltli of
Januai-v. The BMO and the comoanits had done an amazina amount of
wc)ri@. and brouatit the battalion back. Up to Operational levels. with
@iriiv two vehicies on the deadline renort. which did not include
@.crio Comoanv. at deployment.
The battalion scheduled and conducted trainina in preparation

Enaineer. MAJ David Knichel. with the helo of SSG Mullens
established a deolovment action center that would ooerate 24 hours
a oav to handle coordination with other elements of the division.

Representatives from all familv communitv and Armv services and
o!-oanizations were on hand to answer solc,,er and familv members
ouestions about all facets of the deolovment and life at Dexheim.
The battalion held its departure ceremonv an the 16th of
,januarv. The battalion executive officer. Maior Mooren was the
narrator. BG Otien. SID(M) Commander. encased the colors as CSM
Raphael held them. Later that dav, the battalion would learn the

-JanLiarv 1991. The twentv members arrived in Dammam. Saudi Arabia
that evenina. The rest of the battalion flew out on the 17th
throuah the 20th of Januarv, from Rhein-Main Airoort, an Navv C-9
(DC-9) aircraft. Aloha and Brava company flew out with hardlv a
alitch on the 17th. but the followina day with Charlie and Delta
c(3moanies deployment. the movement was comolicated with late plane
arrivals. and lack of around coordination. The last Delta comdanv
fliaht departed at approximately 0200 on the 18th. With no further
itibound fliahts known until Sundav the 20th. the Headquarters
comdanv and the remainina staff thought that one last Saturdav at
