            again shrapnel. Life has to go on, though, rations need to be
            collected, water obtained, meetings attended and reports filed. A
            sense of humor is maintained despite the irregular and often
            contradictory news reports. The female officers volunteer to
            collect rations one day, and bring forth a laugh from everyone as
            they troop back to the compound singing, "Hi-ho, Hi-ho, it's off
            to work we go... 11, rations slung over their shoulders.

                     It is finally time for us to leave MGM and head for our
            first desert home. Hotel "Ground Zero", as some have begun to
            call it, has a lot of amenities going for it, but the location i!9
            something else altogether. We begin a 100 vehicle convoy in
            busses and trucks after leaving 8 hours behind schedule. We are
            learning to wait, but it is never very much fun. As we drive
            away from al-Khobar, one last SCUD flies through the air ' '-
            towards Dharan Air base. We all feel safer going to the desert,
            the vastness of which seems to swallow us up. Many aircraft
             ontinue to fly over us, and the traffic on the east-west tapline
