mugs of creamed and sugared tea. Past friendships develop, apd
soon visits are becoming -more frequent, culminating with the
British medical officers showing up one afternoon with a case of
"near beer". MRE's are broken out, and a delightful time of
swapping stories and laughs is had by all. Sunset brings the
party to a close, as no one likes to drive after dark, with the
"Brits" driving north in their Land Rovers.
Things are not all visits and relaxation though, far from
it. -We must inventory and stock our "MilVans" (the big boxes that
look like they've been purloined from the back of a tractor
trailer truck), and check the various pieces of equipment which
will able us to complete our life-saving mission. The central
material supply and operating room sections break out the
instruments and sterilizer, and begin to sterilize and pack
functional surgical sets. Doing this in the midst of a sand storm
and with minimal water supplies proves to be the first of many
challenges. We must determine what equipment we need, obtain it
if possible (no small feat in itself), and learn to do without it
if we can't.

Today we 'make our sixth move of the deployment. The date
for the ground offensive, we are told, is growing close. The air
