                        A Commander's Perspective is written by

                          Colonel Samuel Raines, Commander of

                    7th Engineer Brigade (Combat), VII U. S. Corps.

             These words are a compilation of notes written in the field

                          over a period of time depicting the

                       preparation, deployment, and operational
              employment of Engineers in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait in

                     support of OPERATION DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM.

                    This perspective is the personal view of the author.

                     This Journal was prepared to capture the personal
             sacrifices of soldiers and family members and the unending
             devotion to duty and professionalism of America's finest.
