         A.          GENERAL DESCRI?TXON OP TACTICAL_SITUATION:  on 26 February 1991,
         3AD was conducting a movement to contact~against The Iraqi
         Republican Guard Forces Corrimand, -specifically the Tawalkana Armored
         Division, just shy -of the nortliwesterh Kuwaiti border. ; 4-7 CAV was
         conducting a moving screen on 3AD's southern (right) flank.  A/A-?
         CAV was the lead ground troop;" two lylatoons were arranged in depth
         clearing the zone between Vw and The scr~een line. One platoon was
         on the screen line proper. The"iead ~latoon, 3/A/4-7 CAV, was using
         bounding overwatch by section. See enclosure $1
         
                 3.  KNOWLEDGE.Dr~ S~TICIN 4:ND CERTAINTY or ThAT INFORMATION:
                 Although A/4-7 CLV knew The ggneral location of the Tiwalkana
                 Armored Division (to within a~zozitely 10K) prior to crossing the
                 in, it did ~ot know any enemy "dispositions, orientation, or
                 composition.  Just prior to snaking contact1 Al4-7 Cl&V was told that
                 the bulk of the Republican Guards vas in fall retreat northeast
                 towards Basra and that 3AD -was not in pursuit.  However,
                 dispositions and noveraent techniques remained nnc"hange.d.
         
             •   C.  TEItRAIN AND ENVIRO~ CONDITIONS-PRBCIPITATION~ DflST1 SMOKE,
                 LIGHT CONDZTIONS, DATE, Tm£1 ETC: Contact with the enemy was made
                 at approximately 1530 lirs on 26 Feb 91.- Dusk was approaciung1 the
                 sky was overcast, and a sandstorm was blowing limiting naked eye
                 visibility to under 300m. ~herma1 sights increased visibility to
                 just under 1000 meters.  Smoke was not a factor.
         
                 D•  DTNAHI'CSDF INTERACTION: The action was joined vhen 3/AI4-7 CAV
                 gained visibility and engageQ~nerny~ troops at a range of between BOO
                 and 400 meters.  The Iraqi infantry initially returned small arms
                 fire.  (I thi~nk~tlia£~e enernyinfantry, at least, were sbooting at
                 A/4-7 CAVs muzzle flashes). ~tb1/AI4-7 CAV came on line and
                 engaged -troops and Blips (MP-1) -at ringes from about 100 meters to
                 400 meters and tanks (T-72)~at ran4es of about 300 meters to 800
                 meters.  we engaged with TOw2-and Taw2A1 25nm-  SRI and Ar, 7.62
                 (COAX) and 155mm (D?ICM).  The-ri~a~forces returned fire with small
                 arms, machine gun (12.7irtrn and 14.5mm), 73mm (~MP-1), RPGs1 ATGM,
                 125mrn satot (T-72), and indirect-fires. A/4-7 CAV was" in contact
                 for approximately •one-•hour.  see~enc1osures 2,3 & 4.

                 P'.  SENSOR I~Oflv"SLTION-&YSTEM USED.~  Enemy accuisition was achieved
                 with thermal sights only.  The engagement '.~s fought entirely with
                 thermal sights.
