active ,locus on the Mediterranean coast around Alanya in Anatalya
         province.

         S. Disease Vector Information

Important malaria vectors include Anopheles sacharovi (the
primary mosquito vector), An. superpictus, An. claviger, An.
pulcherrimus, and An. maculipennis. An. sacharovi has been found
resistant to DDT Dieldrin and Lindane, Fenitrothion, Fenthion,
Jodfenphos, Chlorpyrifos, Chlorphoxim, Phoxim, Propoxur, Malathion
and Parathion. The human body louse has also been found resistant
to DDT. Aedes aegypti would be the main vector of Dengue Fever in
urban areas with other species of aedes assuming a more significant
role in transmission in forest areas. Ae. aegypti is known to be
resistant to DDT, Dieldrin and Lindane.

         9. Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Moderate risk: All forms are endemic. PPNG is present. As of
April 88 health officials stated that 52"Aids patients" have been
registered. Only 31 cases have been reported to the WHO as of Jan
         90. Avoidance of sexual contact is the best prevention, but if
contacts occur, "safe" sexual practices, such as use of condoms,
are strongly advised. Treatments and contact management should be
in accordance with NAVMEDCOMINST 6222.1 and the Sep 1, 1989, MMWR,
111989 Sexually Transmitted Disease Guidelines." (Vol. 38, No. S-8)

         10. Animal Associated diseases

Low risk: Rabies is highly enzootic and endemic countrywide
with hundreds of deaths annually. on 1 Feb 89 the villages of
Firinli, Edipli and Karaevliler in Izmir Province were put under
rabies qurantine after a villager was bitten by a rabid dog.
Peviously, Ordu Province was experiencing a marked increase in
animal rabies. The increased reporting of rabies quarantines and
ease in animal
rabies incidence in the ordu region. Anthrax is reported to be
moderately endemic in animal populations. Four cases of Anthrax
were reported from Gurgen (Guneyce district of Rize ) in Nov 86.
Brucellosis occurs countrywide. It is recommended that personnel
be prudent in their contact with all domestic and wild animals.
General guidance for the management of animal bites is found in
NAVMEDCOMINST 6220.4, "Rabies Prevention and Control." If there
are any questions, bites of any kind should be reported promptly to
local public health authorities and/or to NEPMU-7. It is
adviseable to have Human diploid cell rabies vaccine (HDVC) and
rabies immune globulin (RIG) for post-exposure treatment should it
         be indicated.

         11. Other Health considerations

Low Risk: Schistosomiasis (Schistosoma haematobium) is endemic
in the southeast along the border with Syria in the villages of
Gundek, Gerbia and Kinnik, along the Sublak River, Nuseabin, i.e.,
