                    b. @'oor personal hygiene in that troops are not
washing their hands after using. the latrines and
                    before meals.
               25. it was originally intended that individual s@ldiers spend
only 48 hours in the shedx while they completed their reception
procedures. in the event, many were accommodated there for up to
3 weeks. The sanitary conditions were appalling. Latrineq and,
skips were in xhort xupply. The units in the Sheds did not
provide fatigue parties and keep the place as clean ax they might
have done. It was by the Grace of God that there was not a major
outbreak of diarrhoeal disease. It is proposed to route
reinforcements through the Sheds in some weeks' time. They must
xpend the minimum amount of time there and go to more appropriate
               accommodation as soon as possible.

               26. -From the health and hygiene point of view, the inital
deployment has gone well. Units are well established and the
incidence of preventable disease has been low. However, unless
more stringent precautions are taken, the incidence of diarrhoeal
disease is set to rise even further. To use the Sh4do again to
accommodate large numbers of troops for long periods would be to
               court disaster.
