Q: Part 0£ the iRepublican Guard is probably in the ~urnayJah Olifleid. Are you getung any
Secondary Sort of explosions in the Olificids similar to what happened in ai Wafra Occasionally `vcU
heads or Lnink lines or storage depots might be hit?
A: I wouldn't t&lk about specific geography and `OcOtion, but we Lr~, as you know, targcting
the Republican Guard, and COnsistenLIy arc gettLng s~me secoi)dary CAplOsiOfle from our attacks.
Q: Have you had any reports, aside ftOm the shooting in Siddab, of any other kinds of
terrorist activities thai have come to your attention behind the lines?
A; No, I'm certainly flOt aware of any in the theaier, I think we all know there have been
TCpofls 0£ terrorist activity outside the Gulf areas, but nothing that 1 know of beyond the Jiddah
incident that I can report 10 you
Q: Gen~ral, you spoke about going after hIs NBC manufacturing capabilities and destroying
tnost or them. DO you have any news about his storage capabilides? Do we know how far you've
destroyed them?
A: We've done substantial damage to ?Li5 storage capabilities. I couldn't give you a Percentage
right now, but significant destruction of his storage capabilities and bIological and chemical weapon
systen)s.
Q: ~be British briefer was telling us earlier that weapon systems are not 100 percent
accurate.. i'd like to know if you have any kind or report on any targets that shouldn't have been hit
that have been hit. Have there been any mistakes so far, and can you teU us anything about them?
A: 1, quite truthfully, CaziflOt tell you of any reports that I know of that would show
inaccurate bombing particularly north of the SaudViCuwaiti border. Thett iLr~ a couple described
t~at may have landed up on,fricndly posibons, but no, I cannot tell you of any I know or that have
grossly missed tl~ target. I m not awate of any.
Q: With the amount of bombing that has been going on, is It possible there would not have
been one mistake?
A: 1 would never say never, but I think it's unlikely. Again. I go back to a point I will
continue to make, that we try to use the right kind of weapon systems to attack those targets that
would presCnt the potential for collatetal damage in ci viii an communities. So even our weaponeerin~
is designed to avoid civilian Casualties.
Q: What can you tell us about possible Iraqi schools, mosques, or hospitals as headquarters in
lieu of their nonnal headquarters which have been destroyed?
A: I think that happens to be a true fat, and I think even in some of the airfields we find
them trying to move their aircaft Into residential areas -- again, ftCognizing what I've been saying all
along, that we have avoided civilian targets, and clearly, one of their modus operandi is 10 move into
civilian targets to protect their military capability.
Q: Is their tactic working in the sense that we won't attack them in ilie mosques If they're
using them as mihtai~ Sites?
A: Yes. Wo have avoided anything (liat has any religious sigriLficance, and we'll continue to do
£0.
