Middle East: Situation Report

Some movement of Iraqi units continued, but the

disposition of force was essentially unchanged

Near Ras RI Qulayah, Kuwait, the Iraqis were setting

up a chemical decontamination site, the first

           in Kuwait since the crisis

began. The site, identical to

ones the Iraqis set up during the Iran-Iraq war,

consists of at least seven V-shaped drainage

trenches. Site preparations were not complete, and

no decontamination vehicles were present. Such

sites am used to wash down vehicles and equipment

contaminated by chemical weapons .

In Iraq, checkout and testing of new-type mobile erector-launchers for Iraqi Scud

missiles continued at Taji. The Scud missile that was erect on its erector-launcher

had been lowered A total of 12 Scud missiles were in the area.

the program is progressing steadily.
