                 DESERT WARFARE SURVIVAL HANDBOOK


INTRODUCTION

     The purpose of this handbook is to provide a single source
of practical tidbits of information that will be applicable to
the individual Marine and small unit operating in the desert
environment.   Lessons learned from OPERATION DESERT SHIELD and
other desert operations have been compiled from various sources,
documents and references.   This handbook is intended to
compliment existing doctrinal publications and provide a field
reference on basic skills and techniques required to survive and
fight in the environment of Southwest Asia.

     Information presented in this handbook is derived from a
variety of sources, to include Army publications, doctrinal
references,  interviews, and lessons learned from individual
Marines.   The information is presented in Topic, Discussion and
Lesson(s)  Learned format, with an emphasis on brevity.
