TOPIC:   Consumption of Liquids

DISCUSSION:

Unclimitized Westerners dehydrate extremely rapidly in the
desert.   Moderately active personnel require a minimum of 2
quarts of water per hour.   Liquids must be forced, even when not
apparently thirsty.   If a man feels thirsty in the desert, he is
probably already dehydrated.   Artificial flavoring (gatorade,
fruit drink) mix can be added to sweeten the water and encourage
consumption.

LESSON (S  LEARNED:

Force liquids; on some sort of schedule if possible.   Drink water
even in the absence of thirst.   In very hot conditions, sip water
often rather than drinking large amounts occasionally.   If your
urine is dark, you need water
