As the technical transition was taking place, those personnel and equipment that were being replaced by Eighth Communication Battalion were in turn being rapidly embarked on opportune airlift. In this effort, the battalion was able to redeploy to Camp Pendleton in record time. The battalion commander returned to Camp Pendleton on 1 April 1991 officially ending the Ninth Communication Battalion's effort in this incredibly historical event. Nevertheless, the battalion's personnel continue to support Marine forces throughout the Southwest Asia region as part of two amphibious task forces, 5th MEB and 11th MEU.
