                                         SECTION 2


                             Commands, Operations, and Training


              As the period began, HQSVCCO, 5th MEB's primary emphasis was the
          conduct Of Commander of Troops (COT) responsibilities aboard the USS
          TARAWA (LHA-1). Company personnel provided the supervision and
          contributed to the manpower to run the armory, laundry, store, MAA,
          Guard, all shipboard messes and the Ship's Platoon. With the execution
          of Desert Storm, emphasis was additionally placed on planning for the
          conduct of Headquarters Commandant functions in support of the 5th MEB
          Staff. FAM Fires were conducted with the M9 pistol, M16A2 rifle and MK19
          automatic grenade launcher. The company conducted a force march during
          Sea Soldier IV.


                                F'ersonnel and Administration

              The tempo of administrative activity remained high throughout the
          period. Numerous pay related unit diaries were necessary and
          administrative assistance was required by the company units embarked who
          had limited organic capability. COT responsibilities required the
          compilation of a daily personnel report of embarked Marines.

                                         Legal Action

              The Commanding Officer, HQSVCCO, 5th MEB has Special Court Martial
          Authority. One (1) NJP was held durino the period.

                                           Medical

              During this period the medical section ensured all vaccinations were
          current to enter the Kuwait Theater of Operations. All NBC related
          chemical igent pretreatment drugs and antidotes were issued and
          Subsequently recovered after the operation.

                                       Logistic/SLtpply

emained high during the period. During Sea
          Soldier IV, the Supply section transferred Desert Camouflage Utilities to
          BSSB-5 +or further issue to RLT-5.  All personal NBC equipment was issued
          upon entering the Persian Gulf.

                                   Ship Related Activities

              During this period the Ship's Platoon moved 8,226 passengers
          2,09C),631 lbs of cargo, received 153,511 lbs of mail for the ship and
          transferred 247,115 lbs of mail to the remainder of the Amphibious task
          -Force.
