Subj! MISSION OF THE RJE/ISMO
1. The mission of the Remote Job Entry (RJE) site is to
provide, for the units supported, access to the mainframe
computer located at the port of Jubail. From the mobile
data processing van, located at GSO-2, data communication
links are established with the main processing computer
at Jubail. Using these links, the MISSO, MISCO, and SMU
can transmit their data to Jubail. The data received at
Jubail is processed with data from throughout the Marine
Corps. The updated information is transmitted back to
the RJE. Once the data is received more processing is
done to ensure the output is correct and routed properly.
This output is printed or downloaded to diskette and
distributed to the units that need the most up to date
information on manpower, supply parts, and maintenance to
complete their mission. Providing this kind of support,
the RJE fulfills its mission.
2. The mission of the Information Systems Management
Office (ISMO) is to establish and maintain a Local Area
Network (LAN), it's connection to the Saudi Wide Area
Network and connectivity to the Marine Corps Data
Network. The repair and maintenance of personal
computers (PC), and writing and maintaining small systems
software. To establish the LAN connectivity, the ISMO
section laid coaxial cable to the supported unit or,
when not feasible, provided for a dial-in connection into
the network via modem. The network is constantly
monitored for breaks in the communications and to provide
assistance to the users when needed. The maintenance of
the PC's include troubleshooting problems, answering
users questions, and second echelon repairs of the
central processing unit, monitor, and printer. Small
systems software was provided and maintained, and as the
need arose, new programs were produced at GSC)-2 for the
supported unit.
3. While attached to OSO-2 the RJEIISMO has:
Week one: * Set up the ISMO section of the GSO-2
compound, Including fighting positions,
work areas and berthing tents.
* Set the ISO shelter In place and brought
the processing unit on line.
* Ran coaxial cable for the LAN and come
lines for the mainframe.
* Set up the initial runs for SASSY and MIYMS.
Received first data sets from Jubail and
processed print for SMU and MISCO.
Week two: * Ran LAN lines to MISCO/MISSO. Established
WAN connectivity to Ist FSSO/Jubail port at
