        battalion and a battalion of tanks ready to move in 30 minutes.(44)
        Tiger Brigade was given a verbal order to provide one company of
        tanks to move forward and screen the Direct Support Command (DSC) at
        Kibrit.(45) At 2341p the General personally discussed the protection
        -Z the ammunition supply point (ASP) with the Commanding Genp-ql,
        DSC.(46) By 23S6,, the Tiger Brigade screen was established in front
        of the ASP, centering on grid TX 145119.(47)

            One other sighting was called in by 2d LAI. At 0029, 30 January,
        the Battalion reported another Set of 29 vehicles moving through the
        berm.(48) At that point it was uncertain if these were Saudi or
        Iraqi. The MEP confirmed that these were Saudi, operating along   the
        eastern boundary of the division's zone. At 0116, the Ist DiViaion's
        Task Force Shepard reported shelling of OP-6. At the same timat 2d
        LAI reported that the Saudis were firing over their positions. The
        G-3 made an immediate call to I XEF to correct the situation.(49) In
        addition, there were also 20 vehicles to the north of the border,
        heading south. After confirming that these were Iraqi vehicles, 2d
        LAI engaged them with air support.(50)

            By 02200 the skirmish was essentially over with 2d LAI reporting
        having killed two tanks, both by the same LAV-AT gunner.(Sl) At
        OSSOO the 2d LAI Battalion Commander reported that there was a 15
        kilometer gap on their left flank with ist Division. They were
        ordered to refuse their flank(52), while the division sought approval
        to change the boundary between the two divisions. This approval came
        at 0837.(S3) The Ist Division recommended that grid location QS
        66OS34 be designated as a link-up point.(s4)

            After the action on the night of 29-30 January, the Commanding
several line units to the north, to positions
        from which they could more quickly respond to any more such probes.
        As a result, a frag order was given to 6th Marines to establish a
        covering force. The 6th Marines' forward command post would move
        north along with two of its battalions, 1/6 and 2/2. Artillery
        support was provided by 2d Battalion, loth Xarines.(SS) A frag order
        was also issued to 2d Tank Battalion to, on-order, place one company
        OPCON to 6th Marines and displace to the vicinity of QR 887820.(56)
        With these preparations made against the possibility of a repeat of
        the previous night's actions by the enemy, the Commanding General
        left to visit the scene of the battle. While there, he met with the
        CO of 2d LAI Battalion and reviewed the new disposition of forces.

            The remainder of the day passed in relative quiet. Noweverp
        reports continued to be received of heavy enemy columns moving to the
        north of the division's zone and all along the Kuwaiti border. The
        6th Marines having moved north, was given the mission of scr@-ni@..
        the division front and counterattacking any incursions. The 2d LAI
        Battelionj, OPCON to 6th Marines, screened the division's sector
        immediately south of the border, and 2d Battalion, loth Xarines was
        available to provide artillery support.(57)

            By 2000, reports were received in the COC of an $'imminent" attack
        in the 6th Marines' zone. JBTARS intelligence reports cited multiple
        brigade-sized units moving in the area north of the border.(SS) In
