Bth Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, FMF, USMCR was activated on 26
November 1990 and immediately faced the task of assembling, processing and
.transporting its Marines and equipment to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina from
each company's respective drill centers. The subordinate elements of the
.battalion are spread across the Eastern United States from New York, with
Headquarters and Service Company in Rochester and Company B and an H&S
detachment in Syracuse to Florida with Company C in Tallahassee and AT (TOW)
.Company in Miami. In between are Company A, home armoried at Fort Knox,
Kentucky and Company D from Columbia, South Carolina.
On 26 November 1990, over 98% of Bth Tank Battalion's assigned Marine
reservists answered the activation call at their company home armories. A
letter of instruction (LOI) mailed to each member's home in advance of the
recall listed what items of equipment and uniforms each Marine was to report
with. Originally the battalion had been told by higher headquarters to expect
a thirty day advance notice of mobilization to prepare. That window shrunk to
ice directed this battalion to report to its
Site of Initial Activation (SIA), Camp Lejeune, NC by 28 November 1990.
Before leaving their home armories, each company completed the basic
