the hastily prepared enemy defensive positions of elements of the lst
Mechanized Infantry and 3d Iraqi Armored Divisions, Lieutenant Colonel
Jones continued an unrelenting attack through it's objective, capturing
and destroying many enemy tanks and APCs. Realizing that the enemy was
in full retreat, he pushed the attack forward to cut the two vital MSRs
out of Kuwait City to block enemy units fleeing north.
1st Battalion, 6th Marines' highly successful three days of combat
in OPERATION DESERT STORM achieved tremendous results by destroying
120 enemy tanks and armored personnel carriers, numerous artillery
pieces and capturing in excess of 3400 enemy soldiers. That +act can be
directly attributed to Lieutenant Colonel Jones' exceptional
combat leadership. Lieutenant Colonel Jones' aggressive, inspirational
and up-+ront leadership while under fire, throughout OPERATION DESERT
STORM, reflects great credit upon himself and is in keeping with the
highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
