Top i c:
CHEMICAL PROTECTIVE OVERGARMENT OG-84
Discussion:
The NBC SOP has established guidance as to the effectiveness
of C-POG's in a chemical environment. The policy was clear,
and concise. In the midst of Operation Desert Storm this
policy was changed without notice or any appreciable changes
to the gear. This change of doctrine sent a sock wave through
the NBC community , and also reduced confidence in the program.
Recommendation:
Future policy changes should promote confidence in the gear,
especially at such a crucial point in time. The NBC gear which
received an extension to its' service life +or Operation Desert
Storm was identified as unserviceable via msg 06145OZ MAR 91
after all hostilities ended.
Topic:
ANTIDOTE KIT, NERVE AGENT, MARK I
Discussion:
The Mark I NAAK Kits were a psychological comfort to the Marines
in the field. They were eager to understand its' use and the
benefits of carrying auto-injecl,ors. Med Log advised that
expiration dates which were noted on MARK I carriers depicting
date 2/91 were extended beyond their expiration date.
Recommendation:
The untimely change, couple with the increased tensions of
a possible chemical attack did not +oster a spirit of confidence.
Future policy changes should be given careful consideration.
