         Sub:   NBC AFTER ACTION FOR OPERATION DESERT STORM

         1. The NBC Defense Specialist of MAG-13 Fwd. were faced their most
         challenging, and dangerous threat in the history of the
         Corps. Lessons learned, and experience gained will prove to be in
         valuable in the -Future. Though no lethal chemical agents
         were deployed; the evaluation of key areas in the primary mission
         of NBC Defense is essential.

         2. The dictates of peace time doctrine as it applies to the
         chemical warfare defense are both physically and academically
         challenging. However, during combat operations the psychological
         variables enter the equation. Policy changes must be
         care-Fully evaluated to determine its impact upon Marines.

         3. The assets available to the Marines in the KTO were untested
         in combat. They were never subjected to the intense demands,
         harsh environment, and the chemical threat. A concise evaluation
         of the gear, and it*s performance is crucial to the future of
         the Corps'ability to overcome threat forces which may deploy
         chemical weapon systems.

         4. T/D requirements throughout the Marine Corps within the NBC MOS
         have experienced reductions over the recent years. The fast pace
         of operations within the Kuwait Theater should sent a clear
         signal thought-out the Corps as to the basic requirement +or more
         school trained NBC personnel.

         5. Supporting assets are critical to the overall success of the NBC
         scheme of operations. The areas of greatest concern are
         communications, transportation, untimely of gear shipments and
         distribution policies in the theater.

         6. Training requirements during peacetime placed emphasis on
         Individual Survival Measures, however increased emphasis should
         be placed on all aspects of NBC Defense Training.
