the sole and then, starting from the toe, the boot is rolled up.
This procedure is repeated for the remaining left side pouch.
Lastly, the Chemical Protective Overgarment (CPOG) is placed
inside the main body of the pack.

Once a Marine has set up his or her pack as described above,
he/she should proceed as follows in the event of an NBC alarm:

                  1) Stop breathing, Don and clear Gas Mask.
                  2) Take cover: Cross legs, assume a seated position.
                  3) Put on Flack Jacket.
                  4) With ALICE pack +acing the Marine, open middle Pouch
and pull out poncho. Pull poncho on over head.
                  5) Put on helmet. Ensure poncho is tucked under body.
                  6) Lean forward in order to get as low as possible. Cross
arms and place forehead on forearms.
                  7) Relax! Await further word.

Having completed the above steps, the Marine is now in a hasty
defense posture that will provide an immediate MOPP level 4
         protection.

Should the Marine be required to proceed to a full MOPP level
4 from the above posture, he should remain seated and proceed as
         +allows:

                  1) Remove CPOB from interior of ALICE Pack.
                  2) Don trousers from seated position.
                  3) Without removing poncho, don blouse from seated
position. Zip up blouse and ensure gas mask hood has
                     been pulled outside of blouse.
                  4) From pouch on right side a+ pack, remove boot and place
                     on right foot.
                  5) From left pouch, remove boot and place on left foot.
                  6) With poncho over boots, securely fasten laces.
                  7) From right side pouch, remove glove with insert, and
                     place on right hand.
                  8) From left side pouch, remove glove with insert, and
                     place on left hand.
                  9) Starting at the feet and working towards the head,
secure all zippers, velcra fasteners and draw strings.
This can be accomplished by the Marine himself or by
                     use of the buddy system.

As was stated earlier, one of the principles that this system
is based upon is standardization. 1+ each Marine in the unit
packs his NBC gear as described herein, it will greatly enhance
the buddy system, as a Marine will know exactly where to look in
his buddy's pack to find a specific article a+ equipment.

The purpose of this system is to save time in the event of an
NBC alert, thereby minimizing panic and promoting a state a+
calmness within the unit. By following the instructions for the
packing of NBC equipment contained in this article, then combining
them with effective NBC drills, the confidence level a+ the
individual Marine will increase, as will the overall NBC readiness
         of the unit.
