         Eight giant Air Force Reserve C-5A cargo jets are called to action from the 439th
      Tactical Airlift Wing at Westover Air Force Base in Massachusetts. Officials will not say
      what role they will play in the Middle East crisis. Westover spokesmen say they have
      been inundated with calls from reservists volunteering for duty in Saudi Arabia. (United

         President Bush signs waiver lifting the ceiling on the maximum number of F-15
      fighters that can operate in Saudi Arabia. An amendment to the          1988 Defense
      Authorization Bill,  proposed by Sen. Metzanbaum,   limited the number         to 60.

         Thursday --- The 15 member United Nations Security Council unanimously passes
      U.N. Resolution 662 declaring Iraqi annexation of Kuwait null and void. (Washington

         Jordanian Foreign Minister announces his country will comply with sanctions against
      Iraq.  (Washington Post, August 10, p. A25.)

           Soviet Foreign Ministry spokesman says his country stands for coordinated action
      within the Security Council and condemns Iraq's annexation of Kuwait.     (Washington
      Post, August 10, p. A25.)
