      warning Iraq that war is the only alternative if Iraq does not withdraw peaceflllly from Kuwait. Fhe
      Council includes Saudi Arabia, United Arab Errirates, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait. (New York

      ---117th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, among the First reserve units called to active duty, is the first
      to be replaced and sent home as more reserve units are called up. The 117th began duty in the Persian

        Wednesday - Senior Administration officials say that Army warnings that U.S. troops will not be
      ready by January 15 will not constrain President Bush from ordering military action if he thinks it is
      necessary. (New York Times, December 27, p. A1~)

        Defense Department says that in the event of war in the Persian Gulf, Iraq will probably attack Israel
      and will probably use chemical weapons against U.S. troops. (New York Times, December 27,p.

        After a week of silence, diplomatic contacts have resumed between the senior U.S. envoy in Iraq
      and Iraqi officials, but no progress has been reported toward resolving the crisis. (New York Times,
      December 27, p. A13.)

        U.S. and Australian sailors seize an Iraqi cargo ship chartered by the Arab Women's Union with
      cargo of tons of rice, milk, sugar and cooking oil - all of which are prohibited under U.N. sanctions~-
      and a small amount of medical supplies. The ship was enroute to Iraq. (New York Times, December

        Thursday --- Department of Defense plans to vaccinate U.S. troops against the biological weapons
