4. The I MEF redistrib~tion plan o~tlined in reference (b) does
not adeq~ate ly address c~rrent T/E shortages . Under this plan,
1st FSSG woitid receive ten ~replacement M17 deccin ~nits, but will
- receive no additional itnits0 The FSSG would remain at 43V. of its
T/E allowance, while the Division would receive 117A of its T/E
allowance.
5. Initial discussions to exchange one functional M17 decon unit
for one functional M1~ decon unit could not be supported. The
FSS(3 has 16 01: the id e r Ml L-~ id e COfl un i t 5, and all are maintenance
deadlined. The 1st M~RDIV is in the same position with respect
to the M12. There are virtually no repair parts for the M12
idecon units and they are unreliable due to their age and design.
Exten~ive use of the Se systems corn pounds the water id is t rib ut ion
problem, since the M12's, with their 5~~ gallon water tanks, will
r e qi' ire dedicate id use 1:11: water iii st rib itt ii:' n assets to h 1:11 id
sufficient water for idecontam i nation. 11: general support water
distribution assets are dedicated to filling the M12 water tanks,
they will not Lie available for use in general support to the MEF.

additional M17 id econ `~n it requirements Lie S ourced immediately
from the 4th Marine Expeditionary 3rigade, as described in
) paragraph 3 of reference (b) . These assets should be distributed
to I MEF units only after an equitable distribution plan is
