           SUWECT: Minutes of Desert Shield SW and NED Issues Work Group


               (2) Hepatitis A. Unlikely to be licensed for 2 years. No
           reported cases in three months which is incubation period.
           Necessary? No efficacy data in people, although there is in
           product. Proceed with phase II testing and if it appears that
           ISG will not be available then Hepatitis A vaccine may be
           considered. Supply of ISG is limited, but if procurement of ISG
           from foreign sources is successful, supply of ISG will be
           adequate. The group supports rapid development of a licensed
           Hepatitis A vaccine.

               (3) ETEC.    No vaccine per-se, only an oral cholera
           vaccine. Push on with alternative cholera vaccine to pursue
           efficacy and safety. The Cholera/ETEC vaccine could be very
           beneficial to Desert Shield and should be considered for use
           under investigational protocol. USAMRDC will investigate the
           supply and production capability of the parenteral cholera.
