SUBJECT: Use Of Antibiotics in the Medical Defense Against BW
Threats
3. The rationale to administer 5 days Of ciprofoxcin to each
soldier is based on the following reasoning:
a. It allows rapid access to antibiotics following a BW
attack.
b. It provides added confidence to the soldier, especially
those not immunized against the BW threat.
c. It allows sufficient time to get the remainder of
antibiotic (25 additional days) plus vaccine.
d. It is consistent with the 10-tablet (5-day) supplv of
antibiotic (doxycycline) ' '
4. The above data support the contention that antibiotics,
preferably ciprofloxicin, given following exposure to
aerosolized anthrax in combination with anthrax vaccine will
preserve the life of our soldiers.
