(5) (U) Exportable Training Package - Material
prepared and packaged for distribution to the field on BW
countermeasures: See response to item (4).
(6) (U) Use of a Protective Mask - Can an alternative
to the chemical protective mask be used to protect against BW
agents (e.g., dust mask with HEPA filter): Alternative
respiratory protection is available on the market and could be
used to protect against BW agents. The Navy representative
expressed interest in placing some of these respirators on
their ships which would allow personnel (e.g., medical) to
perform their mission.
(7) Immunization Schedule for Anthrax

(8) Ability of Chemoprophylactic Agents - How
much of a variety of antibiotics are available or can be made
available to be used as chemoprophylactic agents: Ample
supplies of doxycycline and ciprofloxacin are commercially
available and will be prepositioned in-theater
(9) (U) Use of Anthrax Vaccine by Allied Nations -
Are the British or any other allies currently using anthrax
vaccine: While there was no information available that any
other nation was immunizing against anthrax, the British have
expressed an interest in immunizing their forces in-theater.
(10) Prioritization of Available Vaccines for
The Ad Hoc Committee recommends that the
CENTCOM Commander establish the prioritization of units to
receive the anthrax vaccine. As additional supplies of anthrax
vaccine are available, the Ad Hoc Committee recommends that all
U.S. Forces in-theater receive the three doses of anthrax
vaccine. However, given projected levels of vaccine, two doses
should be given at 0 and 14 days, followed by a third dose at
28+ days as vaccine becomes available. Due to the limited
supply of the botulinum toxoid, only selected forces should
receive it.
(11) Increasing Industrial Production of these
Vaccines - Can the suppliers of these vaccines increase their
production schedule:
anthrax vaccine were received by 31 August 1990 and additional
shipments are expected by 16 September and 10 October 1990
