           SUBJECT: After Action Report - Army Medical Field Feeding


           Part I: Executive Summary

               A. The mission of Army Medical Field Feeding is:

                    1. To provide safe, wholesome meals to patients and
           personnel authorized to subsist in the dining facility.

                    2. To provide special diets, nutritional supplements
           and nutrition intervention to patients.

                    3. To provide consultation to the commander on
           nutrition related health and performance issues.

               To accomplish the mission, food must be procured from a Class
           I Ration Breakdown Point, transported to the hospital and
           secured. Meals are prepared for both patients and staff.
           Approximately 23% of all patient meals are modified diets.
           Patient meals must be transported to the wards. The mission
           covers a 24 hour per day operation to include a nite meal for the
           staff. All utensils and equipment must be sanitized in
           accordance with preventive medicine standards. Nutrition Care
           personnel must operate and maintain M-2 burners. The Chief,
           Nutrition Care is the consultant for all food/nutrition related
           issues.

               B. Dietitians and 91m, Hospital Food Service Specialists,
           both active duty and reserve, were deployed to Southwest Asia in
           all hospitals. Significant issues in medical field feeding
           include:

                    1. Non-availability of appropriate patient rations

                    2. Lack of command visibility and involvement

                    3. Inadequate numbers of required and authorized 91X
           personnel

           Part 11: Lessons Leaned

               A. Non-availability of appropriate patient rations.

                    1. Observation: Medical B Rations did not
           automatically flow into the area of operations (AO).
