             1. tg-)- SITUATION.

                  a. -tl@ General Enemy Situation. IRAQ continues to deploy
and reorganize forces in the Kuwait Theater of Operations (KTO),
and improve defensive positions. Current dispositions show
approximately 15 committed divisions and 11 reinforcing di%-isions
preparing a defense in depth along the RRAQ-KUWAIT-SAUDI ARABIA
border and approaches to KUWAIT. Although currently in a
defensive posture, IRAQ maintains the capability to transition to
             offensive operations within 36-48 hours.

                  b. -ta" Friendly Forces:

                      (1) "TI@ LISCENTCOM continues to deploy forces to the
Area of Operations (AO), to coordinate with Saudi Arabian and
other allied forces, and prepares to defend SAUDI ARABIA against
an Iraqi attack. As part of this effort, ARCENT forces continue
to establish a defense well forward in sector, and to coordinate
tactical plans and training operations with USCENTCOM components
and with Saudi Arabian and other allied forces in both the
Eastern Area and Northern Area Commands (EACINAC).

                      (2) -+" COMUSARCENT forces continue to deploy to SAUDI
ARABIA via the major Ports of Debarkation (POD) at DIIA14RAN, AD
DAMMA.M, and AL JUBAYL, and further deploy to forward locations in
sector. While continuing to protect approaches to the PODS,
USARCENT forces transition to a forward defense in sector, to
include defense of the approaches to critical oil producing
facilities at ABQAIQ and AL HUFUF. The intent is to defend well
forward as soon as possible, changing the nature of the defense
from a concentration on security of key facilities to an
orientation on defeat of enemy forces. The mature defense will
be thoroughly integrated with EAC forces to the North, 'qAC forces
in the West, and MARCENT forces in the East.

                      (3) XVIII Airborne Corps provides four and two
thirds division for a defense in sector on the eastern flank of
the ARCENT Area of Responsibility (AOR). 44th Medical Brigade
provides health services support to XVIII Airborne Corps.
