            2. CONCEPT OF' AIR SUPPORT

                a. The 6th Mar(-)(Rein) requires air fire support assets to
provide depth to and shape the battlefield. The air fire
support plan focuses towards engaging enemy artillery,
mechanized units, and troop concentrations at long range.
                    Air delivered fires:

                    (1) Negate the Iraqi artillery advantage in both numbers
and range, and will be the primary counterfire asset.

                    (2) Destroy Iraqi counterattack forces after ground
                         forces stop the first echelon.

                    (3) Support the assault north past Al Jaber airfield
towards the regimental and division objectives

1). The regiment makes uXt@OEiiVi: Use of a Forwards air
controller airborne, (FAC(A)) due to the reduced ability
of the ground observer to acquire targets at long range.
The FAC(A) is a 24 hour requirement and is an important
communications link to support the total fire support
                    plan.
