DoD introduces an Online Depleted Uranium Library

June 17, 2002 - WASHINGTON (DeploymentLINK) -- The Deployment Health Support Directorate has released its new Depleted Uranium (DU) Library, a gateway to a wide variety of information about depleted uranium. This on-line DU Library will provide servicemembers and researchers access to medical and environmental studies, scientific and technical data, training and safety materials, as well as news releases, speeches, briefings, and public testimony on the military use and health effects of DU. The library is indexed and fully searchable to make it easy to find the information your are looking for, and features a glossary with definitions of scientific and technical terms.

The use of depleted uranium during the Gulf War and in the Balkans sparked a controversy about the potential health effects on soldiers and others exposed to the heavy metal on the battlefield. The DU Library provides information that will assist you in learning more about this subject.

If you have any questions on the DU Library, members of our staff are available by telephone at 1-800-497-6261 and by e-mail at special.assistant@deploymenthealth.osd.mil.
