SUBJECT: INFORMATION FOR THE COMMANDER

							4-17
CENTAF/DE 5 OCT 90

Memo For: CENTAF/CC
Subj: Information for the Commander

Received word today of an AAFES plan to deploy 8 (eight) mobile food vans to the AOR. Burger King is outfitting 4 (four) vans with its Burger King logo. Evidently they're looking for publicity and Desert Shield exposure.

Concerned that AAFES is moving out on their own without Command coordination. Speculate that ARCENT (Sup Com) is also pushing concept to help fix their troop feeding problem. Don't think this is the right time (militarily) for AAFES to wedge in.

Regional BX manager is pressing for an OK to put one van at Eskan Village. I've advised Col. Gidding's staff.

Asked CENTCOM/J4 staff to sponsor a joint CENTAF/ARCENT/AAFES meeting to resolve the scope and level of AAFES involvement for Desert Shield. The Burger King push could become a political issue.

Respectfully,
