(U) AIRFIELD: (1) (U) IF INSTALLED AIRCRAFT ARRESTING BARRIERS ARE OPERATIONAL AND ADEQUATE IN NUMBER, THEY WILL REQUIRE OPERATIONAL CHECKS AND MAINTENANCE. WHEN INOPERATIVE, OR WHERE NON EXIST, BAK-12 OR MOBILE AIRCRAFT ARRESTING SYSTEMS (MAAS) NEED TO BE INSTALLED. THE 823RD RED HORSE SQUADRON WILL BE AVAILABLE TO INSTALL PAGE 3 RHIUFAA2013 AND CERTIFY BAK-12 BARRIERS AROUND THE END OF SEPTEMBER. LET US KNOW OUR REQUIREMENTS. (2) (U) RUNWAY EDGE AND APPROACH LIGHTS SHOULD BE CHECKED JUST LIKE THE AIRCRAFT ARRESTING SYSTEM. WHERE THEY ARE INADEQUATE, REPAIRS OR INSTALLATION OF BARE BASE EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED. REDUNDANCY OF THE AIRFIELD LIGHTING SYSTEMS ESSENTIAL AT HIGH THREAT BASES. DON'T WAIT UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS TO LOCATE REPAIR PARTS FOR THE OPERATIONAL SYSTEM AT YOUR SITE. (3) A DISPERSED AIRCRAFT PARKING PLAN IS DESIRED, REVETTED PARKING BETTER AND HARDENED SHELTERS WOULD BE IDEAL. WE HAVE SOURCED SOME B-1 AIRCRAFT REVETMENT KITS FROM THE STATES TO HELP IMPROVE THE CONGESTED AIRCRAFT PARKING RAMPS AT SOME OF THE BASES. THESE REVETMENT KITS ARE BEING SHIPPED VIA SURFACE MOVEMENT AND WILL BE SENT TO THE NORTHERN MOST "HIGH THREAT" BASES FIRST. (4) AN OVERAGE OF ENGINEERING PERSONNEL ARE CURRENTLY LOCATED AT SOME SITE TO PERFORM A RAPID RUNWAY REPAIR MISSION. WE ONLY HAVE TWO NINE-PATCH AM-2 MATTING KITS IN THEATER AND THEY HAVE BEEN SOURCED FOR KING FAHD (30 KM NORTH OF DHAHRAN) AND SHAIKH ISA (SOUTH-EASTERN EDGE OF THE ISLAND OF BAHRAIN). ADDITIONAL KITS WILL NOT BECOME AVAILABLE UNTIL ASSETS ARRIVE FROM USAFE OR THE PAGE 4 RHIUFAA2013 STATES. HIGH THREAT BASES, EVEN IF THEY ARE SCHEDULED TO RECEIVE A PRIORITY PAGE: 2
