SUBJECT: SERVICE REQUIREMENTS FOR DIAZEPAM AUTOINJECTORS IN SUPPORT OF DESERT SHIELD POINT PAPER ON SERVICE REQUIREMENTS FOR DIAZEPAM AUTOINJECTORS IN SUPPORT OF DESERT SHIELD PURPOSE To outline the requirements identified by the Services for diazepam autoinjectors in support of Desert Shield. BACKGROUND - On 14 Aug 90, CENTAF/SG decided to request production of diazepam autoinjectors (under the Army IND) for treatment of nerve agent casualties (should they occur) in its AOR (see point paper this date). - The CENTAF/SG decision led to queries to the other Services concerning any requirement they might have for the item. - As of 1630 on 14 Aug 90 the following requirements have been identified to the Army project officer: CENTAF 30,000 units USN/USMC 45,000 units US Army No decision yet; currently issuing commercially available pre-filled syringes to combat lifesavers RECOMMENDATION: None.
