    8. Other insects to be aware of:
    
    a. Scorpions    
    b. Stinging spiders (Black Widow)    
    c. Blister Beetles    
    d. Remember if you happen to be in a tent or out in the field,
    you must shake out all parts of your uniform before dressing each
    morning.    
    e. Avoid walking around in bare or stocking feet.
    
    9. Snakes - Snakes are abundant, however, they do not care for the
    heat or direct sunlight. Avoid shaded areas such as holes in the
    ground and under dwellings. Night travel should be accomplished very
    cautiously.
    
    10. STD's - They are quite prevalent and intimate contact should be
    avoided.
    
    11. RECAP OF PRECAUTIONS:
    
    a. Drink 1-2 quarts of water per hour.    
    b. Work/rest in cycles. Don't overdue. Remember heat
    exhaustion and heat stroke are medical emergencies. Even though they
    are very preventable, it is the #1 problem being faced by personnel
    right now.    
    c. Avoid consuming food and water from other than military
    installations. If you cannot, eat only piping hot foods, foods that
    can be peeled or canned. Likewise, only drink]c bottled or canned
    beverages. No dairy products or ice.
    d. Wash yourself as often as possible especially your hands.    
    e. Avoid being bitten by insects since they do carry many
    different diseases. Wear the uniform properly and use your insect
    repellent at all times. Don't forget to shake out your uniform when
    you awaken each morning to get rid of any unwelcome visitors in your
    clothing.    
    f. Be cautious of snakes. Avoid areas where they may be, as in
    under dwellings and in holes.    
    g. Always be seen by a U.S. military physician if you aren't
    feeling well. Do not go to a local physician.
